Re: Emily's restaurant post

OK, you know that, as a grocery store employee, I am so there with you. The customer is NOT always right.

On that note, wouldn't you say that within a frame of reference (say, the restaurant frame), there are a number of different frames that make up that larger frame. The "casual restaurant" frame and "formal dining" frame all make up the "restaurant frame."

If you were to go to an extremely fancy restaurant, would you be shocked if your server sat down at a booth across from you to take your order? Or, if they were wearing jeans (which I assume you wear at your place)? I would be. However, I would not be shocked to see that sort of thing in the restaurant at which you work.

Grocery stores are all pretty similar, but I am surprised when I encounter a store that has no self-scan checkout, and then I get annoyed b/c I have to stand in line. I think a lot of people who shop at my store probably feel the same way. However, people who frequently go to that store, however, might be appalled when they see the six self-scan registers that are at my store.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I actually made any sort of point with that example. What I'm trying to say is that, even though I am engaged in a large frame ("grocery store frame"), there is still room to travel and run into "distress and discomfort" within that frame.

Also: Chris, you were right.
