Amber on heavy painkillers

Alright I am not sure where to start. I am still recovering from getting my wisdom teeth out Friday and I'm still all taking all the fun drugs and what not. I hate it right now in pain and writing and trying not to fall asleep because of the meds.
I will start off by saying something about the introduction. As I read this introduction I thought if this is anything like Ramage I'm doomed. Lakoff's language to start was overpowering and a bit intimidating. I thought this maybe because this kind of thing isn't my forte into things I normally read. I honestly don't like when someone starts off their book using lots of big words and well just immense detail of this and that and everything. I am more of a lets get to the point kind of person impatient as it may be. I secondly do not like when it seems like someone just picked up a dictionary or a thesaurus and had a field day also once again annoying beyond all reason. Like I said I am a bit impatient so I like it quick, easy, and to the point. That is it for my opinion on the introduction so now I am moving forward.

Chapter one... I enjoyed chapter one and I liked the way that she's presented it. Lakoff is just really good at explaining everything. I thought she used great examples and explained them really well. She used such examples as President Reagan and Coretta Scott King on the subject of apologies. Then her entire arguments of first and third person great amused Amber it did. Talking about I and Amber and going back between using the two. Amber does prefer to talk in third person for it amuses her and makes her laugh because then other people have to deal with the fact Amber is using third person. HAHA You all loved that didn't you. One thing that annoyed me was well Freud... I despise him with a firey passion of DOOM. And having to read about his theories or what not is just plain annoying. That is Ambers rant for chapter one .

Now onto chapter two. Alright I like the chapter most of it was fairly interesting. I really do not know what to say besides that. Well okay I'll tell you about one Quote which I brought up in class last time that we had discussed. "They make sense because we have always done so; an we have always done so because they make sense. Their very routineness comforts us; and the knowledge that "everyone else" is acting and thinking similarly also comforts us. The fact that we all are this way separates us from the dangerous Other. We are both congnitively "rational" and socially "normal." Now I read this and thought "Wow this is interesting" Now someone who highlighted and wrote all over my book like they were my four year old brother who got a hold of a box a crayons said this was about "gays". This also made me think it was a possibility. I mean if someone is different in our society they are outcasted and basically branded like a bull because they are "different." This brings me to use an example which might be overused Brokeback Mountain. (I know I know). This movie definitely cause controversy. Oh no its about two gay men and they are kissing and its horrible. I don't see it as horrible yes if two men want to love each other let them. We have seemed to accept watching two women kiss each other on TV and go that's fine but no not men that's gross. This also brings me into another "dangerous other." Sesame Street. I mean obviously in today's world its a horrible show. I mean cookie monster is making kids fat, Oscar is making kids not shower, and Bert and Ernie are a homosexual influence. I never knew that two
guys living together is a homosexual influence. Oh wait does that mean that two guys living together in a dorm room is homosexual I guess so. And secondly your kids are fat because you let them eat whatever they want because you do not want to say no. Your kids are dirty because well you don't force them to shower. As for a homosexual influence just get over it people of the same sex can live together and not be homosexual. Sorry about my rant .. Okay that's my opinion about chapter two.

Alright Chapter three and four I really do not have much of an opinion on because I have attempted to read it over this weekend and I do not remember anything about it. I'm sure it is good as the first few chapters were very fun to read. So there we go that's my opinion I liked what I read and I think that Robin Lakoff is a good writer and knows how to get her point across.
